Tips for Successful Ridesharing:

Like with many things communication is the key to successfully operating a rideshare pool. Plan to discuss with others in the carpool beforehand to exchange information and establish guidelines.

• Discuss who will do the driving and if driving will be shared. Many pools prefer to share the driving and exchange rides. Others have a primary driver who receives a payment from the riders.
• Discuss how much and when compensation is expected.
• Discuss pick-up/drop off arrangements for where to meet or be picked up and when.
• Decide how long the pool driver will wait for a passenger.
  Exchange phone numbers and e-mail and keep them up to date
• Build in flexibility to accommodate changing schedules.
• Establish back-up plans in the event the driver is not available.

Practice common courtesies:

• Give notice of vacation or sickness as far in advance as possible.
• Drive in a safe and courteous manner and be prompt.
• Avoid controversial discussions.
• Avoid strong scents to which others may be allergic.

Carpool vehicles should be well maintained, filled with gas, and properly insured. A review of your insurance coverage can assure appropriate coverage is in place for the amount of driving your vehicle will be used.
